As I have been reading about IDT I have found a bit of an identity issue from within the field itself. It appears to me that, like the title of the field itself, it’s members are in debate about what we are doing and how we should proceed. This appears to be a very exciting time to get involved with this field, as we all may play a role in shaping the future of it!

I would also like to extend a nice presentation that I found on the web. This presentation gives a nice overview of IDT and what it is based on.

While reading about IDT, theories and models, it seems to me that most of the models are based on the ADDIE model. Some modifications are made depending on the end goals, but the basic premise of analysis, development, assessment and review remain the same.

  1. I couldn’t get that presentation to come up – loos like it was linked to an “error” site. Could you check that and give the corrected link? Sounds like an interesting resource.

  2. I enjoy a good controversy. I don’t like to be involved myself in any kind of conflict or confrontation myself, but I do like to see opposing sides support and argue. I think it is a lot like the current debate about IDT and it’s future. Each of us (some more than others) have ideas about what should and shouldn’t be and we often become defensive about issues that we are vested in. Maybe that is why there is an identity issue?

  3. I think you brought up a very interesting point. I have had similar doubts, I’ve felt unclear about what I’m studying and what to do with it. Thanks for bringing that fear to light and making it a motivator isntead of a road block.

Sometimes when I talk to people ad they ask what I’m studying I can only explain what I’m doing because things are changing rapidly, and they are also acceleratng. Who knows, it’s all about the jouney right?

  4. I feel that the more diverse techology becomes, the more diverse the definition of IDT will be. There is so many types of technologies out there that it is difficult to define it all nicely. Everyone has their own idea of what something is and stick to it. It will be difficult to keep everything organized.
